Home Bargains star sticker mystery solved by staff member

A Home Bargains mystery involving exactly what a certain kind of sticker frequently seen on prices and item descriptions on shelves has been solved. A member of the Facebook Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group wondered what it could possibly mean - and was confused at the price not seeming to be reduced in many cases.

The stickers which are put on the item description and price are of a red circle with a yellow star inside. On the Facebook group Jake Oliver asked: “Just a quick question does anybody know what these red star stickers are for? I was thinking special offer or managers special but the items I have seen them on haven’t changed in price.”

This led to a number of suggestions and confusion with Lisa Jesson replying: “I work in B&M not seen them before.” Before people like Amy Hutchinson replied: “yeah because that’s not B&M.”

Jessica Lea joked: “Every time my daughter sees these stars she winds me up by saying ‘mum don’t buy that it’s a one star’.” Patrick Tomlinson suggested: “Clearly states star buy next to it.”

However some Home Bargains staff came to the rescue to explain. It turns out there are certain items which should always be in stock - and should they run out staff are asked to make sure the shelf space is saved for when the next delivery arrives.

The star means ‘don’t put anything else here’. Dem Gowan said: “I work at home bargains and its stock that we should always have in and it’s the 75 products that they think people buy the most however the red stars are more for staff so we know the space needs leaving empty if we don’t have any in for when we do.”

Emma Drury added: “It’s a product we will always stock. It’s mainly for staff so if we don’t have any in to leave the price there and leave the shelf space as it should come back in on the next delivery if we sell out.”
