With the cost of living still on the up, many of us are looking to save every penny we can. Thankfully, a bargain hunter has shared a tip she's been using to save on electricity usage when lighting her home.
Posting to Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, she explained she has been cutting back thanks to a £4.99 gadget, and her post revealed that many more people love the item for the same reason. The smart spender shared she's been using a battery-operated light in her hallway, having purchased an LED glass lantern from Home Bargains for less than a fiver.
"Exactly what I’ve been looking for, I need a hall light on all evening as it’s so dark and I’m always tripping over my cats but this is the answer for me, £4.99 home bargains, takes two triple a batteries led bulb. Saves on electricity and is really nice too," she wrote.
In response, many people were quick to praise the lantern - which is only available in-store but a similar version is on sale here - and gadgets like it, revealing the trick has helped them to save money.
"I have this in pink for my hallway as I don’t have a socket in a decent enough place for a lamp, it’s perfect for the price!" read one reply.
Another said: "I use plug in nightlights around the house they are dawn to dusk use minuscule electric and are cheap as chips from the pound shops."
However, not everyone was so convinced. Someone claimed: "An ordinary LED light bulb will cost you about 4p in electric if you leave it on 24 hours. If you run it 8 hours every night, that's still less than a fiver a year in electricity."
But the tip could prove worthwhile depending on the type of lighting used in your home, as one fan of the hack pointed out.
She said: "I have one of these in the hall way the batteries last a month so cheaper for me as I’ve got spot lights so a lot more lights than one running."
A different commenter pointed out: "My friends are stocking up on candles, they are saying they candles smell nice, you get heat and light from them. So sometimes we all look at different things. It's a bargain if you like and use it, regardless of price."
