Hollywood star Hugh Jackman has been announced as the latest headliner for next summer’s BST Hyde Park festival.
Despite being better known for his roles on screen, Jackman will showcase a medley of classics from his stage career at the 2025 festival.
It comes after Jeff Lynne’s ELO were announced as the first headliner in what is set to be their final ever show. Meanwhile, country artist Zach Bryan has been unveiled as the second headliner.
While Jackman is best known for his blockbuster films, in which he’s played a string of iconic characters, including Wolverine in the X-Men franchise, he actually got his start in musical theatre as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast in Australia.
His theatre résumé also includes an Olivier-nominated performance in the West End’s Oklahoma! and a Tony Award-winning role in Broadway’s The Boy from Oz.
He also got attention for his singing with his performances in the 2012 film Les Misérables and 2017’s The Greatest Showman.
Jackman returned to Broadway in 2021 for a revival of The Music Man, which became a box office smash.
Following Jackman’s recent his announcement of Hugh Jackman Live: From New York With Love at Radio City Music Hall for a series of US concerts in 2025, he is set to bring his talents to the UK for this highly anticipated show.
It’s perhaps no surprise that the actor will be facing his buggest audience in the UK at BST next year. He’s often shared his love of London, in particular, and even campaigned for the NHS.
In July, he and Ryan Reynolds called on fans to be “heroes” by donating blood in an appeal video for the NHS.
The Hollywood stars formed the collaboration with NHS Blood and Transplant ahead of the launch of their superhero movie Deadpool & Wolverine the following month.
“Our characters have spilled countless hot tubs worth of blood in the name of entertainment, but don’t worry it’s all fake – mostly”, Vancouver-born Reynolds says in the clip.
Australian actor Jackman adds: “Real blood is harder to come by, that’s why the NHS needs heroes like you to donate blood.
“Just one hour of your time could save up to three lives.”
The video finishes with Reynolds asking “Will you be a giver to a receiver in need?” and urging viewers to book an appointment, with Jackman and Reynolds both apologising for the Deadpool star’s tongue-in-cheek comment.
Tickets for BST Hyde Park will be available for general sale on November 6 at 10 am on the BST website here.
