Hollywood film legend Martin Scorsese reveals he is a fan of Derry Girls

Legendary film director Martin Scorsese has revealed he is a fan of the popular Irish TV show Derry Girls.

The Hollywood legend, 80, made the revelation while speaking at The Economic Club of Chicago annual black tie dinner last month.

He was asked what TV show he was currently watching before he told the packed room that he is currently watching the Channel 4 sitcom.

"I watched the other night Derry Girls," Scorsese said, as the crowd broke into a loud applause. Scorsese smiled and pumped his fist before jokingly adding: “Those nuns”.

The clip appeared on Twitter today and quickly racked up over 1.6 million views.

Derry Girl's creator Lisa McGee took to the social platform to reveal her reaction at finding out Scorsese was a fan of her show.

She wrote: "Excuse me while I drop dead and actually die a death."

Meanwhile actress Siobhan McSweeney, who plays Sister Michael in the Channel 4 comedy, also retweeted the clip, writing: "Good morning. I'm ded. (sic)"
