Hollyoaks fans were left fuming over Justin's 'unnecessary' death on the soap this week, after many had hopes he was set to return to the series.
Justin Burton, played by Chris Fountain, last made an appearance on the show 14 years ago in 2009, and in his last scenes he was forced to go on the run after being wrongly accused of the murder of Warren Fox, who had actually faked his own death. After a long stint away, fans were hoping to see the character return as recent storyline has followed Justin's son Charlie on a search for his dad, leaving many thinking Justin was making a comeback.
However, viewers were left devastated when a scene showed Charlie discovering that Justin had died in 2022, ending hopes that he would return to our screens. Some people took to Twitter to share their anger over the writers' decision.

Hollyoaks' official Twitter account shared the clip of Charlie getting the news. Fans were quick to react, with one person saying: "killing justin off screen is so dumb and unnecessary. he was such an important character, why would you close the door for any possible return??" and another said: "That's just mean, killing off justin".
One viewer said: "Such a stupid decision, he should have been brought back not killed off." and another viewer agreed: "Disgraceful decision if Justin really is dead!" as a third fan said: "I can't believe that Hollyoaks has killed off Justin! What a mistake!"
A fourth viewer said: "the way I was actually starting to think we could have a justin return or at least a lil cameo BUT NO they had to kill him ????" While a fifth tweet read: "I can't believe we all hyped ourselves up over all the justin mentions thinking we were gonna get a return only for him to die???"
However, some fans will know that 'dead' Hollyoaks characters don't always stay that way. One person said: "Justin died last October?! How sad that it was alcohol-related after what Mel went through. We hope this death can be easily unwritten with a plot twist in the future if the need arises. Witness protection, anyone?" with a 'fingers-crossed' emoji.
