Holly Willoughby shares cryptic post after Schofield scandal and ITV comeback

Holly Willoughby has hinted at the scandal surrounding her former co-host Phillip Schofield with a cryptic post on “meaningful coincidences” on social media.

The 42-year-old shared the post on her lifestyle brand Wylde Moon’s Instagram account, and the post detailed the reasons behind “secret messages from the universe”.

“Are coincidences secret messages from the universe? We all love a 'Sliding Doors' moment, but are meaningful coincidences really a sign of beautiful serendipity that hold greater meaning than seemingly 'random' chance? Tap the link in our bio for some answers,” the caption read.

In the article on her Wylde Moon website, it details the meaning of “serendipity”, which is when “happy accidents happen”.

In an interview with neuroscientist Matt Johnson, it says “humans we have a desire to seek meaning”, and he suggested that “breaking habitual routines” will help people find “more meaningful coincidences or serendipitous moments”.

The article signs off with a message that “life is full of surprises”, and encourages readers to “embrace the unexpected and allow serendipity to guide us on our journey.”

The post seemingly alludes to the drama that has engulfed the hit ITV daytime show, and led to the downfall of Phillip Schofield’s illustrious, decades-long career.

In a surprise announcement last month, the 61-year-old revealed he was leaving This Morning after a meeting with ITV bosses.

Just a week later, he then issued a bombshell statement confirming he had an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a much younger male employee who worked at This Morning, and he had lied to ITV bosses when the relationship was investigated in 2020.

Meanwhile, Holly maintained a dignified silence on the controversy, and posted a simple statement on social media which said she had been “hurt” by Phil’s lies over the affair.

The 42-year-old made her highly anticipated return to This Morning on Monday, and spoke directly to viewers as she addressed the scandal, telling them she felt “shaken, troubled and let down”.

“You, me and all of us at This Morning gave our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth, who acted in a way that they themselves felt that they had to resign from ITV, and step down from a career that they loved. That is a lot to process,” she said.

“And it’s equally hard to see the toll that it’s taken on their own mental health,” Holly added, as she touched upon Phil’s admission during a BBC tell-all interview that he had felt suicidal.

“I think what unites us all now is a desire to heal, for the health and wellbeing of everyone.”
