Holidaymakers have been urged to double check their insurance policy before heading off on trips abroad this summer.
An easing of Covid restrictions, both here and elsewhere, mean that a growing number of people are catching up on holidays they have missed out on over the past two years.
Co-op Insurance has seen the number of people taking out travel policies between January and April more than double compared to the same period in 2019, Wales Online reports.
The firm has urged people to read the small print of their policy to ensure that they’re covered for any Covid related disruption.
Graham Ward-Lush, head of travel at Co-op Insurance, said: “It’s great to see that more people are starting to travel abroad again and we’ve seen sales of our travel cover double in the first few months of this year, compared to before the pandemic.
"But we understand that the ever-changing rules and regulations from the past two years have caused some confusion for travellers, so it’s important the insurance providers are really clear about what is included in their policies.
“In 2020 we introduced Covid cover to our travel policy which protects those who have to cancel or cut short a trip if they or someone in their party gets Coronavirus – this still stands today as we continue to live with fluctuating infection levels.”
He added: "Similarly, our policy will cover any additional costs incurred if you catch Covid whilst abroad, such as costs for your return flight if you have to stay longer, which will hopefully offer further peace of mind to people setting off on a long-awaited holiday.
"In terms of vaccinations, restrictions for those who are unvaccinated do still differ from country to country, so customers should check their destination for these rules before their trip, but the same level of cover is provided as per your insurance policy, whether you’re vaccinated or not.”
Travellers landing in Scotland from elsewhere are not required to take any tests or fill in a passenger locator form upon their arrival - regardless of vaccination status.
However, holidaymakers have been urged to check the Covid entry requirements in place before jetting off to their destination.
