Lean hog futures posted strength on Monday, with contracts 20 cents to $1.55 higher. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $96.68 on Monday afternoon, down 99 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down 36 cents on August 6 at $96.30.
USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back up 31 cents in the Monday PM report, at $101.81. The butt and rib primals were the only reported lower. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Monday at 483,000 head. That is 65,000 head above the previous Monday and 1,363 head above the same week last year.
