Hogs Look to Wednesday After Slipping on Tuesday

Lean hog futures posted losses of 35 cents to $1.20 across most contracts, with August up 17 cents. Open interest was up 4.691 contracts on Tuesday, suggesting modest new selling. USDA’s national base hog price was reported at $96.32 on Tuesday afternoon, down 36 cents from the day prior. The CME Lean Hog Index was down 21 cents on August 7 at $96.09.

USDA’s pork carcass cutout value was back down 33 cents in the Tuesday PM report, at $101.48. The loin, rib, belly and picnic primals were reported lower. USDA estimated federally inspected hog slaughter for Tuesday at 479,000 head, with the weekly total at 944,000 head. That is 48,000 head above the previous week and 19,214 head above the same week last year.
