Hobart man Nicolaas Bester accused of using social media to harass Grace Tame

A Hobart man has appeared in court charged with using social media to menace former Australian of the Year Grace Tame.

Nicolaas Ockert Bester, 70, is charged with three counts of using a carriage service to menace between April and August this year.

It is alleged Mr Bester made public posts on Twitter in relation to and directed at Ms Tame that reasonable people "would regard as being, in all the circumstances, menacing".

Mr Bester appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Monday.

He did not enter a plea.

Magistrate Andrew McKee adjourned the case until January 31 and continued Mr Bester's bail.

Mr Bester was charged in October.

The Twitter account he allegedly used has been suspended.

Ms Tame was 2021 Australian of the Year.
