Hoarder's Sherwood home was burgled three times after she died

A burglar struck at the same home three times after the resident, a hoarder, had died and her property was full of possessions, a court heard. The devastated family of the deceased had not got round to removing her belongings in Osborne Grove, Sherwood, leaving Adrian Chalados, 31, of Highbury Road, Highbury Vale, free to steal from the council-owned home.

Drug addict Chalados, who was homeless, carried out burglaries three times between April 16 and April 27, 2020, after the death in January of that year.

The defendant was given a chance when he was sentenced for those crimes before Nottingham Crown Court on June 25, 2020, to 12 months in prison, suspended for two years. But he breached the order with more drug-related offending.

Appearing back before the court on Thursday, March 17, Chalados was fined £150 for breaching the suspended sentence and conditionally discharged for 12 months on offences of shop theft, three charges of possessing amphetamine and going equipped for theft.

The shop theft was at Lidl, Mansfield Road, Carrington, on September 4, 2019, when he was arrested with £9.25 worth of goods in a backpack and three bags of amphetamine, worth £50 and for personal use.

The going equipped charge was on January 21, 2020, when a neighbour was retiring to bed when males and a female were spotted going into the garden of a derelict property.

The neighbour was suspicious because they were using lights and something like torches to shine into the home. Chalados was found by police with two torches, bolt cutters in his backpack and amphetamine.

In police interview he said he went into the garden to "relieve himself" and the reason for the torches and lights was because a female friend was living in a property without electric. He was caught at B&M Bargains, Radford Boulevard, trying to hide a Kinder Surprise egg with amphetamine inside.

Mitigating, Chris Brewin said two of the offences breached the suspended prison sentence, and all Chalados's offending was drug-related. He has now stopped taking drugs and has applied for a forklift truck driver's licence. He is unable to work at the moment after he was knocked off his bicycle and broke his foot. Appearing in court on crutches, Chalados, who pleaded guilty to all matters, cried as he was spared jail.
