A bar revamp is planned at a historic building which was recently sold to new owners after falling into financial difficulties. The new owners are looking to rearrange the bar at Woodborough Hall, as part of a refurbishment of the events venue, with plans recently submitted to Gedling Borough Council.
The venue came under fire when the previous operator cancelled couple's weddings just before they were due to take place. Nottinghamshire Live previously saw correspondence stating this was due to the venue going into receivership, which its former owners said was a result of the ongoing effects of Covid and a difficult trading environment.
The Grade-II* listed building, constructed in 1660 for Philip Laycock, was then subsequently sold to its new owners Kidd Hospitality Ltd, who announced the deal on July 8. Planning documents state the current bar is "not well designed, poorly maintained, does not comply with current regulations and is insufficient to meet the service needs of the venue."
In a statement, the owners of the Heritage England listed property, said: "We are delighted to announce that Woodborough Hall is under new ownership and management from Wednesday June 29, 2022. The sale of Woodborough Hall has been agreed following the appointment of receivers over the property.
"Our intention is to reopen the Hall as a hospitality, wedding and events business and we are currently working on obtaining the necessary compliance certifications and licences, hiring a new staff team and commencing some initial refurbishment. The Hall, which has a fascinating history, is situated in the beautiful village of Woodborough.
"Combined with the stunning garden, we believe this offers an idyllic setting for us to create the next chapter of this venue. Whilst we are truly excited about the future, we recognise the responsibility which comes with stewarding such a historic local building for the Woodborough community and we hope you will support us with this venture."
They added they were looking to re-open the venue as soon as possible, and expressed sadness at the wedding cancellations before the purchase of the hall. The new operators told Nottinghamshire Live they would share more about their vision for the venue in the future - the planning application is pending consideration by Gedling Borough Council.
