Historic Nottinghamshire building to relaunch as nightclub after years closed

A nightclub opens this weekend in a landmark building that's been closed for more than a decade. On Saturday, July 1, the Corn Exchange on Castle Gate, Newark, will be relaunching as Club X.

Plans were submitted to Newark and Sherwood Council earlier this year requesting for the building to reopen as a multi-use leisure centre, which would operate as a nightclub on the first and ground floors. After months of renovations and decorating, including a new bar and DJ booth, the nightclub is ready to open.

It's been taken over by Nottingham-based nightclub operator Aygun Acinik. Mr Acinik, who also operates bars and clubs in Nottingham and Boston, said: “We’ve changed everything, toilets, bars, entrances, everything.
