A $5 million upgrade to a historic public pool in Lexington is underway. It started with the demolition phase for Douglas Pool near downtown Lexington.
Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton says Douglas Pool, originally constructed in 1939, has seen its share of upgrades, but nothing like this. The finished pool will be transformed from a neighborhood pool to the City’s fifth aquatic center.
Plans call for it to be home to the state’s first wet bubble, which is a climbable feature. The new pool will also have four lap lanes and Lexington’s biggest water slide. Construction has started on the rebuilt pool which is scheduled to open in 2025.
Since the Douglas pool will be under construction next summer, neighborhood families will be offered free season passes for any other public pool.
