A hippo attacked a litte boy and swallowed him before spitting him back out.
Paul Iga, 2, was playing near his home, near Lake Edward, Uganda, when the hippo veered towards him. It grabbed Paul in its jaws and tried to swallow him.
Bystander Chrispas Bagonza noticed what was happening and started tossing stones at the animal, reports the Mirror.
He was amazed when the hippo spat Paul out and swam back into the lake before disappearing
The two-year-old was rushed for treatment to a nearby hospital and given a rabies vaccination.
Ugandan Police said in a statement: "This is the first such kind of incident where a hippo strayed out of Lake Edward and attacked a young child.
“It took the bravery of one Chrispas Bagonza, who was nearby, to save the victim after he stoned the hippo and scared it, causing it to release the victim from its mouth.”
Back in 2016 The Mirror reported on a hippo that had escaped from a circus and was wandering across a busy main road.
The animal was seen on the roads as cars sped past it.
It stopped at the roadside before snacking on bit of grass on an embankment.
Eventually the animal finished its meal and toddled away.
It escaped from a circus in Palos de la Frontera, near Huevla in the south-west of Spain.
However, the hippo was soon caught and taken back to the circus.
Hippopotamuses normally live in Sub-saharan Africa, and can grow up to 1.5 metres long and weigh an average of 1,500kg.
