Fans of the Boston Celtics who make the trek out to Las Vegas Summer League this year will not be likely to see either of the Celtics’ two guards currently stashed in Europe at the annual offseason event. Per the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, “neither Juhann Begarin nor Yam Madar are expected to play for the Celtics’ summer league team this year.”
However, it appears to be less related to the state of the Celtics’ backcourt (which may shift considerably depending on how other elements of Boston’s offseason take shape) than “commitments to their European clubs” for the 2023-24 season in their respective leagues overseas.
For Madar, that likely means a larger role with Belgrade’s Partizan NIS, and for Begarin an entirely new ball club as he leaves Paris Basket for Nanterre 92 of the French LNB Pro A League.
