Hillsborough group slams "despicable act" of Man Utd fan after arrest at FA Cup final

The Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance have slammed a Manchester United fan who allegedly mocked the 1989 disaster after he was arrested and charged at the FA Cup final.

The fan was pictured wearing a United away shirt at the FA Cup final, where the Red Devils faced arch rivals Manchester City at Wembley. The supporter had customised United's away shirt to display the number 97 with the words 'Not Enough'.

An image of the fan wearing the shirt was shared on a social media on Saturday, with the Metropolitan Police soon tracking down the individual and releasing a statement after he was arrested.

It was confirmed on Sunday afternoon that a 33-year-old man had been charged and would appear in court later this month.

Following the incident, Hillsborough Survivors Supporters Alliance (HSA) have condemned the act, branding it an "abhorrent message" and thanked the police force for their proactive efforts.

It read: "HSA was alerted to this despicable act on twitter and we at Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance would like to thank The FA, Metropolitan police and security staff at Wembley for their swift action and arrest of the so-called Manchester United fan.

"We would also like to thank the messages of support that we have received from all genuine Manchester United fans, and fans from other clubs for their support."

United went on to lose 2-1 against City at Wembley. Ilkay Gundogan gave Pep Guardiola's side the lead inside 13 seconds with a wonderstrike from the edge of the area, and it looked like City would cruise through the game unscathed after dominating the opening stages.

But United were handed the opportunity to level when Aaron Wan-Bissaka's header struck Jack Grealish's arm. Bruno Fernandes duly obliged from the penalty spot to put the contest back in the balance as the Red Devils went into the break all-square.

However, City re-took the lead after the break through that man Gundogan again as he swept the ball home beyond David de Gea to send the City fans into delirium. That is how it stayed as City took a step closer to winning the treble for the first time as they face Inter Milan in Istanbul next weekend.
