Hilary Clinton slams ‘backward’ decision to deny Somali World Cup referee entry into US

  • Hilary Clinton has criticised US border control’s decision to deny a Somali World Cup referee entry into the country on the eve of the tournament.
  • Mrs Clinton took to X , formerly Twitter, to speak out after referee Omar Artan was turned away by US Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ) at Miami International Airport on Saturday.
  • She said: As a World Cup host, the U.S. shouldn't be flippantly barring officials from entering the country to do their jobs. It's terribly backward. It's also counterproductive.
  • Mrs Clinton added: Global sports competitions should improve international exchange and relations, not the reverse.”
  • “Following inspection, the traveler, a referee for the Fifa World Cup, was determined to be inadmissible due to vetting concerns and was denied entry,” a CBP statement read.
