Hiker rescued from Glendalough by helicopter after suffering lower leg injury

A hiker has been rescued after suffering a lower leg injury while climbing in Glendalough.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the incident on Friday afternoon.

The Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Team were called out to assist after a 55-year-old man sustained a lower leg injury near the end of the Spinc loop.

A spokesperson for the rescuers said: "At 3.48pm Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team and Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue were tasked by An Garda Síochána to a report of 55 year old who sustained a lower leg injury while coming near the end of the Spinc loop.

"The informant and friend of the casualty contacted the emergency services by phone and gave details and location of the incident.

"Rescue 116 was also tasked and when it arrived on scene, the casualty was packaged and winched on board.

"Team was stood down at 18:20hrs."
