Highlights: Warriors’ Lester Quinones drops 26 points in California Classic opener vs. Kings

While all eyes were on 2023 first-round pick Brandin Podziemski in the California Classic opener against the Sacramento Kings at Golden 1 Center, another member of the Golden State Warriors Summer League team stole the show on Monday night.

Lester Quinones took over for the Warriors on Monday night against the Kings, scoring a team-high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the field with five made triples to go along with four rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes. Quinones heated up in the fourth quarter, scoring 13 of his points in the final frame.

Despite Golden State’s loss to Sacramento, Monday marked an impressive start to the Summer League for the Memphis product heading into his second season.

After going undrafted out of Memphis in 2022, Quinones signed a two-way contract with the Warriors. However, he was waived by the Warriors before the start of the season.

Quinones spent most of his rookie season in the G League with the Santa Cruz Warriors. Quinones was named the NBA G League Most Improved Player for the 2022-23 season.

The 6-foot-4 guard signed a 10-day contract with the Warriors and later earned a two-way deal with Golden State. He played in four games, averaging 2.5 points in 4.5 minutes per game.
