New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday informed the House that a high-level probe was underway regarding the security breach in the Lok Sabha.
Dhankhar said Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla catalysed the investigation which has been set in motion regarding Wednesday's incident when two men jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors' gallery when the Zero Hour proceedings were on and sprayed yellow smoke from canisters.
He said an FIR has been registered at the instance of the Secretariat. The issue of security is within the domain of Parliament and is being effectively addressed, Dhankhar said.
The Delhi police earlier in the day said an FIR has been filed under sections of the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) besides various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Causing panic and chaos, the two slogan-shouting intruders descended into the chamber around 1-30 pm and jumped from chair to chair before they were surrounded, thrashed and then handed over to the security staff by the members.
Both the intruders, besides two others who took part in a similar protest outside the parliament building around the same time, have been arrested.
A manhunt is on to nab some other people who were allegedly involved in the incident that took place on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack.
The two persons caught inside Parliament have been identified as Sagar Sharma and Manoranjan D. A 42-year-old woman Neelam —a native of Red Square Market in Haryana's Hisar - and a 25-year-old man Amol, an inhabitant of Maharashtra’s Latur, allegedly took part in the protest outside Parliament in front of Transport Bhavan with the smoke canisters.
“On request from the Lok Sabha secretariat, the Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered an enquiry of the Parliament security breach incident. An enquiry committee has been set up under Anish Dayal Singh, DG, CRPF, with members from other security agencies and experts," a Home Ministry spokesperson said in a post on X.
"The enquiry committee will investigate the reasons for breaches in the security of Parliament, identify lapses, and recommend further action. The Committee will submit its report with recommendations, including suggestions on improving security in Parliament, at the earliest," the spokesperson said. (UNI)
