Higgs recruits new negligence team and more appointments news

Black Country law firm Higgs has expanded its clinical negligence team with a quartet of new hires.

Charlotte Measures has joined the team as a legal director, bringing more than 20 years of experience, particularly in high-value and complex cases including birth injury and acquired brain injury claims.

Sarah Huntbach is also a new legal director who sits as an assistant coroner for the Derbyshire area too.

She is leading the team appointed by HM Coroner Birmingham & Solihull to investigate the deaths of former patients of Ian Paterson, the breast and vascular surgeon who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2017 for carrying out unnecessary procedures.

Natasha Alton is the team's new associate and has experience dealing with a variety of cases including those arising from catastrophic injuries, orthopaedic injury and claims arising from a delay in medical diagnosis.

Completing the new-look line up is paralegal Sarina Nar.

Clare Langford, who leads the clinical negligence department at Brierley Hill-based Higgs, said: "This is a busy time in team as we continue to grow and develop. I am pleased to welcome Charlotte, Sarah, Natasha and Sarina.

"I look forward to them bringing their expertise to the firm and strengthening our offering to clients."

In other appointment news, a plastic injection moulding and toolmaking specialist has appointed a new senior management team to help it target diversification and international opportunities.

Matt Harwood has become managing director of Barkley Plastics, taking over from his father Mark who has become chairman of the Birmingham-based business.

The former logistics and business development manager will be joined at the helm by operations director Steve Smith and the duo are already setting their sights on maximising an £120,000 investment in automation and increasing its involvement in medical, construction and white goods.

"2022 is a massive year for the business as we look to bounce back from the pandemic and the supply chain issues affecting the automotive sector," said Mr Harwood.

"My dad has been with the business since the late 70s and managing director for the past 14 years so we all felt the time was right for him to move upstairs and let a new management team build on the excellent platform he has built."

The Birmingham office of financial services firm KPMG has promoted Paul McMillan to partner as part of a bumper round of promotions totalling 38 in the region.

Mr McMillan, who joined KPMG last year, has become a partner at the firm's base in Snowhill where he will continue his work within the financial services consulting team.

He began his career in banking and went on to hold a number of senior positions in the industry, including with Ulster Bank and Al Rayan Bank.

Four new appointments have been made to bolster the oversight board of Coventry and Warwickshire's new destination management organisation.

Destination Coventry has expanded the board, which is made up of public and private partners, to ten.

The new recruits are: Richard Harrison, managing director of No Ordinary Hospitality Management; Emma Harrabin, manager of Fargo Village; Dal Dhillon, managing director of Dhillon's Brewery and Laura Capraro, product development and distribution manager for VisitEngland have.

The board is chaired by Paul Michael, commercial venue director at Coventry Building Society Arena.

Birmingham-based media planning and buying agency BBJ&K has appointed a new account director.

In his new role, Sam James will support a number of clients across the business following a period of expansion. Before joining BBJ&K, he co-founded and ran his own small full-service advertising agency.

Business trade body CBI has boosted its Midlands team with the appointment of a new associate director.

Nicola Adams has worked across a number of different industries and spent the past eight years in trade associations, primarily supporting the UK's DIY, housewares, electrical and footwear sectors.

She brings extensive experience in account management, recruitment, business support and event management.

Business outsourcing provider Sigma Connected has announced the appointment of a new managing director to lead the company's newly formed credit services business.

Finance and credit expert Jaco Snyman has been appointed to spearhead the Birmingham-based firm's debt collection agency McLaren Credit Services.

He will take responsibility for the growth and strategic direction of the company which supports a range of clients looking to outsource their account and debt collection processes.

The South African native joined the group last year where he has been director of financial services.

Innovation company West Midlands 5G has appointed Joanna Seabright to the new position of marketing director.

Previously, she held a range of senior marketing positions at transport companies including CrossCountry Trains and has an MBA from Aston Business School.

West Midlands 5G was founded in 2018 to help the region and its businesses tap into the benefits of the new mobile technology. The new position of marketing director has been created to lead the development of its brand and communications.

Liquidity Club has recruited Kirsty Gallagher as its new head of partnerships.

It is a new role at the Birmingham-based finance brokerage aimed at enabling the business to maximise its relationships and drive its growth strategy.

Ms Gallagher has spent more than 20 years in professional services including at financial services outfit RSM and with law firms Freeths, Forresters, Browne Jacobson and Shoosmiths.

Equity investment firm BGF has appointed Adam Huckerby as investor in its Birmingham team.

He has joined the team from Foresight Group where he spent more than three years in the private equity team, investing in Midlands SMEs across a variety of sectors.

In his new post, he will be responsible for all aspects of the investment process, from originating and executing new investments to supporting management teams of portfolio companies.
