Hideo Kojima says a Hawaiian proverb led to the new Death Stranding 2 trailer, because what else did you expect: "I gave it the special title 'No Rain, No Rainbow'"

Sam Porter Bridges flexes for the camera in Death Stranding 2.

Trailers for Hideo Kojima games are truly a genre unto themselves, often esoteric as they are. A promo accompanying Death Stranding 2: On the Beach's PC launch is no different, and the man himself took to Twitter to explain his ideas for it. They're exactly what you'd think, which is to say, you couldn't have possibly predicted this.

"For this trailer, I gave it the special title 'No Rain, No Rainbow,'" he says. "It's originally a Hawaiian proverb, carrying the positive meaning that no matter the hardship or sadness, something good will always follow."

That's definitely poetic, and speaks to Kojima's multifaceted approach to his projects. You can't say he doesn't bring a variety of influences to the table. The track 'Story of Rainy' by Woodkid is used as the music, a big, emotive piece of work, in keeping with these ideas.

"I tied it in with the lyrics "from rain to tears, from rain to rainbow," as well as the themes of Death Stranding 2," Kojima adds. You can often sense this depth from his teasers, especially as they usually come from his workstation, as he used to hallmark the arrival of On the Beach's PC version.

That all said, the visual juxtaposition of Woodkid's massive vocal crescendo, featuring a kids choir, and mentions of "Support for Ray Tracing" and "Remappable Key Binds" is hilarious and very entertaining. This is still a video game, and the medium has some necessary quirks when it comes to promotion.

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach comes out on PC tomorrow, March 19. Since that's Sam Bridges's latest venture well taken care of for the time-being, attention turns to OD, his horror game for Xbox, and Physint, another Sony gig. Whatever comes, you can expect the trailers to be memorable.

Death Stranding 2's PC port adds a harder difficulty mode, new live-action scenes, and much more, Sony confirms – and PS5 players are getting them too
