Hidden knife in adapted cast discovered after street fight in Sneinton

Police found a knife hidden in a hand cast after responding to reports of a street fight. Officers were called to the disturbance in Lord Nelson Street in Sneinton on April 24. .

Police detained a man nearby and searched him. When officers searched under a car where the suspect had been seen, they found a wrist grip with a knife concealed inside it.

Phillip Prince, aged 44, of Dale Street, Sneinton, who had earlier been seen with a wrist grip on, was arrested and questioned following the incident. He later pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in a public place.

He was given a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, when he appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (May 20). Police Constable Stevie-lee Gough, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Prince adapted this hand-cast to make a highly dangerous weapon which had the potential to cause serious harm.

“We understand the immense impact knife-related crime can have on people’s lives and the concern it can cause within wider communities.

“That’s why we work tirelessly with our partners all year round to educate people about the consequences and dangers of carrying knives.

“We continue to work relentlessly to keep people safe and prevent incidents from occurring. The force will not hesitate in taking robust action against those who carry knives.

“We all need to continue to work together to combat knife crime and we’re urging anyone with information on knife crime in their local community to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. In an emergency, always dial 999.”
