Hibs are set to face an SPFL hearing today after fielding an ineligible player in their Premier Sports Cup draw with Morton.
Grant Gillespie's penalty was cancelled out by Ewan Henderson's late strike but Hibs only claimed a point from the match as the Ton won a penalty shootout to win two points, An already poor outing for the Hibees could be getting worse with the SPFL set to punish them for the blunder.
The draw had meant their cup hopes hung by a thread, needing Clyde to beat Falkirk or hope nine teams failed to get above seven points across Saturday and Sunday, but this would almost certainly bring a group stage exit for the 2021 finalists. A statement reads: "Hibernian FC can confirm that the Club has been charged by the SPFL for breaching rules and regulations in the Premier Sports Cup. During the final group stage match against Greenock Morton, the Club featured a player who was subject to a one-match suspension in the competition.
