Hibs revealed as SPFL's dirtiest team as squeaky clean rivals play fair in fouls table

Hibs have earned the tag of the SPFL's dirtiest team after committing more fouls than any of the other 41 teams - and SIXTY ONE more than rivals Hearts, who join Aberdeen as the cleanest sides in the Premiership. But there's no separating Celtic and Rangers with just three fouls between the Glasgow rivals

The lower leagues are at the midway point in the season while the top flight is just short of it as we barrel towards the new year with the festive fixtures coming thick and fast. Only two points separate Edinburgh rivals Hearts and Hibs, with Robbie Neilson's team having played a game fewer and hoping to extend the gap between the two when they face off on January 2.

It might be tight between the capital foes as far as the points are concerned but that's certainly not the case on the fouls table. Stats published by the SPFL show Hibs have committed a whopping 237 fouls - more than any team across the four leagues under the SPFL umbrella. Hearts, by contrast, have committed just 176 - the joint-fewest in the Premiership alongside Jim Goodwin's Dons.

Curiously, it's worth noting Hearts have the fewest yellow cards in the top flight (25), although with five red cards they have more than any other top flight team. And in a reverse of the fouls table, Hibs have the fewest red cards with just one so far.

Top two Celtic and Rangers sit mid-table on the fouls chart with leaders Celtic having committed 198 while Rangers have committed 195 - with St Johnstone separating the totals which are around the average across the four divisions. Kilmarnock, meanwhile, aren't far behind Hibs with just two fouls fewer than Lee Johnson's side (235) while Motherwell (232), Livingston (223) and St Mirren (221) aren't much further back.

In the Championship, Hamilton have conceded the most (219), while Kelty Hearts are League One's worst offenders (229) and Stranraer have the most in the fourth tier (209).
