Hibs provide detailed injury update with Kevin Nisbet, Aiden McGeady and Kyle Magennis all included

Kevin Nisbet is progressing 'really well' in his rehab from long-term injury as Hibs delivered a detailed update on the Scotland star and the likes of Kyle Magennis and Aiden McGeady.

The Easter Road club have a lot of key men on the sidelines at present with the players at different stages of their recovery process. Lee Johnson has had a busy summer of wheeling and dealing in the transfer market so far. A number of his new additions are settling in well at the club and the squad will be further boosted by the return of the injured stars.

Rangers are the opposition this weekend as the Hibees look to bounce back from their defeat at Livingston. They've won one, drawn one and lost one of their opening three games and will be looking to bring the Light Blues' 100 per cent record to an end in the capital. Johnson could have Rocky Bushiri and Josh Campbell back for the showdown in a boost. Elias Melkersen came off in the clash at the Tony Macaroni Arena and has since been working with the medical team. The knock is not as bad as first feared with early signings suggesting it's just a minor ankle knock.

Summer signing McGeady is in the early stages of his recovery having suffered a medial ligament injury in his knee. He will continue to work closely with the medical team on his return to fitness.

Magennis has been out for 11 months, and the club issued a positive update on the midfielder.

It reads: "After almost 11 months out, Kyle Magennis is close to being integrated back into team training.

"There’s a strong possibility that the midfielder could be back on the grass with his teammates at the end of the month.

"The 23-year-old was seen by many supporters doing ‘pitch-based conditioning’ in Portugal during pre-season and that has continued at HTC to ensure he comes back in the best possible shape.

"As he hasn’t played or trained consistently for such a prolonged period, Kyle will need to build up his training volume and get into the routine of training at a consistently high level. Alongside this, he will also have to build up his match fitness and sharpness."

Nisbet is still a couple of months away from team training as he steps up his recovery bid.

The club statement added: "Kevin Nisbet is progressing really well and is in an excellent place in terms of his recovery work.

"The Scotland international is already back doing ‘pitch-based conditioning’, building up his fitness, and doing some individual ball work.

"Due to the nature of the injury, it may still be a couple of months before he returns to team training, but he’s progressing positively."

Demetri Mitchell and Lewis Stevenson are both progressing well and expected back very soon.
