Hibs 'keen' on move for Jamie McGrath with midfielder's Wigan future uncertain

Hibernian are reportedly keen on a move for Wigan midfielder Jamie McGrath, with the player likely to depart the Lancashire club following their relegation to England's League One.

The Latics were issued with a winding up order earlier this week over unpaid tax bills, but have been rescued at the last minute by a takeover from local billionaire Mike Danson.

McGrath, 26, spent the entire 2022/23 season on loan at Dundee United scoring seven goals in 32 matches, but could not prevent the Tangerines from being relegated to the Championship. But according to the Scottish Sun, Hibees boss Lee Johnson wants to bring Republic of Ireland international McGrath back to the Premiership, and a move away from troubled Wigan.

The ex-St Mirren star only has a year left on his contract at the DW Stadium, and could be available on a cut price deal.

The report also states that the Easter Road side are also close to signing Manchester United defender Will Fish on a permanent transfer.

The former England U19 international enjoyed a successful season on loan in Leith in 2022/23, scoring three times in 21 appearances as Johnson's side secured European football with their fifth place finish in the Premiership.

League rivals Aberdeen were also believed to be interested in the player, but Hibs appear to have beaten the Dons to the centre back's signature.
