Danny Ings is on Hibernian’s radar as David Gray seeks attacking reinforcements.
The former Liverpool and Burnley forward, 34, last played for Sheffield United. He was due to join Leicester City in the summer, but that move broke down.
The Hibs Observer understands there is interest from Easter Road in the former England internationalist.
As Ings is a free agent, any agreement would not need to be completed before the 5pm deadline. Hibs chiefs can negotiate with out-of-contract players after the cut-off.
Ings has more than 200 Premier League appearances and European experience.

He has played for Bournemouth, Burnley, Aston Villa and Southampton.
Hibs currently have five forwards on the books: Martin Boyle, Owen Elding, Thibault Klidje, Nathan Lowe and Ante Suto.
Elding is injured, Klidje has slipped down the pecking order, and Suto has started once in six games this season.
Stoke City loanee Lowe, 20, has carried much of the attacking responsibility but is yet to score in the Scottish Premiership.
Boyle gives the younger forwards a player to lean on, but an attacker with the experience of Dwight Gayle or Adam Le Fondre could add another option for Gray.
Both had Premier League experience and contributed during their time in the Capital. Le Fondre scored five in 30 games, while Gayle scored six in 29, including an Edinburgh derby winner at Tynecastle.
Ings is the same age as Gayle was when he joined Hibs. He played 24 times in all competitions for Sheffield United last season, starting six and scoring twice.
Hibs are understood to be seeking an attacker and another defender to complete their transfer business.
