Hibs 'considering' £2m bid from French club for Elie Youan

An unnamed French club has lodged a bid to sign Hibernian attacker Elie Youan.

Hibs are considering the offer worth up to £2m rising to £2.5m once add-ons are included, the Scotsman reports.

The frontman scored 10 goals last season and caught the eye during Hibs' better performances despite their bottom-six finish.

The Easter Road club forked out £700k for Youan when they signed him from St Gallen last year. With two years remaining on his contract, they'll be looking for a significant return on their outlay.

It's not the first time Hibs have had to deal with transfer interest in the player, with Championship teams in England circling in January.

Hibs are still on the lookout for a new permanent head coach following the exit of Nick Montgomery last week.

Caretaker boss David Gray is the favourite to land the role full-time, with Malky Mackay now in the hot seat as sporting director.

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes had been heavily linked with the vacant post, however, after signing a new contract at Killie, this won't be happening.

Montgomery shared a statement with the League Managers' Association yesterday as he broke his silence on his sacking at the Edinburgh club.

He said: "It was an honour to be appointed manager of Hibernian Football Club and to become part of a club with so much history.

"After arriving with my Assistant Manager Sergio (Raimundo) and Goalkeeping Coach Miguel (Miranda), at a time when the club had been through a difficult start to the season, I was confident that we could lift the club and help to challenge for both cups and the top six positions.

“Whilst I am proud we made the semi-final of the League Cup and the quarter-final of the Scottish Cup, I am disappointed that we narrowly missed out of the top six in the last minute of the final game."
