The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has given six of the country's most influential medical organizations 10 business days to state, in writing, their current positions on gender-related medical treatments for minors. The Oct. 14 HHS announcement described the letters as a final demand and also asks each group to identify any planned changes to its guidance and give a timeline for them.
The letters went to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Psychiatric Association, the American Psychological Association, the Endocrine Society and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). The press release named five groups "and others," and the department posted six letters on its website.
