Heron store welcomed by Chilwell shoppers who are happy it's cheaper than store it replaced

Shoppers have welcomed a new frozen food store at the site of a former Sainsbury's outlet that had closed down. Heron Foods opened its doors on May 24 in Blenheim Drive Chilwell. The new shop has created 21 full time and part time jobs and will be open every day of the week from 8am to 8pm. It stocks food and drinks, cleaning supplies, health and beauty products and pet products.

One person who was impressed was Lindsey Holmes, who was out shopping with her baby Ernest. She said: "To be honest I just wanted to be nosy as we’ve been desperate for a shop down here since Sainsbury’s shut.

"It’s really nice to have a shop again. I needed some stuff for baking and it saves me going all the way to the Co-op.

"It is really cheap. I’ll be popping in frequently I think. It’s excellent for the area and bringing people back again. It’s definitely good for those of us who life round here. We’ve been missing somewhere to pop if you run out of milk. It’s really handy."

Fellow shopper Andrew Bruce, 67, was also happy with the store. He said: "I’ve just come down to see what they’ve got because we missed the Sainsbury’s shop that was here before. I know the Co-op’s there but it’s a limited range and it can be expensive.

"It’s interesting to see that this complements the Co-op because they’ve got stuff in here that they haven’t got in there. I am quite impressed because I think it’s a better store than Sainsbury’s was and cheaper. I will definitely be coming again."

Kelly Jones, store manager added: "I’ve been excited all weekend. I’ve worked for Heron for a few years now and I’ve always wanted to open a brand new store. Customers can expect cheap prices and brilliant offers."

Current offers include a 500g bag of kebab meat, pitta bread and a tub of garlic mayo for £2.50.

"That would feed four or five people. The cost of living is horrific. Some of our prices have gone up through suppliers, like the core lines, but our offers no one is going to beat us on price.

"We’re expecting to be busy. They were queuing outside down the street. It was nice to see."
