Heroic workers save woman from 'terrifying' dog attack in Sneinton

Two heroic Nottingham City Homes workers rushed to save a woman who was attacked by a dog in Sneinton. Rob Frost and Colin Swallow claimed they were both bitten on their stomach whilst wrestling with the suspected Staffy Bull Bullmastiff.

The pair were working at a property near the attack in Newark Crescent at around 3.30pm on Tuesday, August 30. Police described the workers as "heroic" and said the dog had been placed in a secure kennelling facility.

Recalling the incident, Mr Frost said he was "absolutely terrified". “I was just sitting in my van ready to go home and I heard this shouting behind me on a bit of grass. I didn’t think anything of it and then the shouting turned to screaming and I saw a dog hanging off the lady’s arm," he told Nottinghamshire Live.

The 52-year-old from Gedling described running to the woman, who is in her 50s said to have thrust a large stick in the dog's mouth. “It released its grip and she fell back," he continued. "Then the dog went for me, it jumped on me and locked onto my stomach.

"I’m not embarrassed to say I was absolutely terrified. I just remember thinking I had to stay on my feet or that would be it." Mr Swallow, who was alerted by another woman, ran over and pulled the dog off his colleague.

"I wrestled with it for about five minutes, it just wouldn't stop until I wrestled it to the ground and tired it out," said the 45-year-old from Ravenshead. "We thought we were fighting for our lives. Then armed police came and took it away."

Nottinghamshire Police said the dog had been placed in a secure kennelling facility and that enquiries were ongoing. Police constable Jack Houghton said: "A woman in her 50s was taken to hospital after suffering an injury to her arm.

"In addition, two heroic members of the public, who intervened after witnessing the incident, also sustained minor injuries. The dog was removed at the scene by specially trained officers and has been taken to a secure kennelling facility. Enquiries are ongoing."
