'Hero' woman confronts plane passenger for sending pal a cruel text about her weight

Nobody enjoys being crammed in next to strangers on a plane, but if you find yourself sharing a row, you've got to make the most of it. Sit back, try to relax, and maybe befriend your flight neighbour. Whatever you do, you shouldn't take your anger out on the person next to you.

Well, one passenger who didn't get the memo mocked the woman sat next to her on a plane - and she didn't do anything to hide it. Thankfully, the woman she insulted was happy to stand up for herself and called out the passenger's 'horrid behaviour', as many were quick to praise her for doing when she shared her story online.

The exchange came to light when @ohmikayousofine revealed what had happened in a series of posts to her popular TikTok account. In her first video, Mika said she'd spotted the woman sat next to her texting someone about her weight. Mika claimed the message read: "Sitting next to a fat a** omg."

But in her video, she said the woman should make sure to "turn your brightness and font size down next time." In a follow-up video, she then explained she had confronted the woman over her comment.

Talking to the camera, Mika recapped her interaction with the passenger next to her, who she dubbed Cathy' "So this is what happened," she began. "Cathy sent this text message and I immediately just went: 'If you're going to call somebody fat sitting right next to you, you could at least turn your brightness down.' And she looked at me and said: 'You weren't supposed to see that,' and I was like, well you didn't make it very unobvious (sic).

"But I had just asked the flight attendant for a seat belt extender. Also, shameless plug, never be afraid to ask for a seat belt extender. If you need one you need one. But the flight attendant came around and said: 'Did you think I was calling you fat?' She thought I was talking to her. But I said: 'No, the lady next to me did though.' She went: 'I'm so sorry,' and I said: 'Some people just have the audacity'."

Having discovered there was an empty seats two rows behind, the flight attendant later returned to ask Mika if she would like to swap seats. "I said: 'No ma'am. I'm fine, I'm gonna sit right here for the rest of this flight,'" the passenger concluded.

In response, people were quick to praise Mika for her response. "I am so glad you said something… and didn't move seats," read one comment. "Yesss! I admire your confidence. We need to start calling out peoples horrid behaviour," said another. A third wrote: "This would have hurt my feelings immensely. The way you handled it is a lesson is pure class. You are my hero."

However, not all of the comments were so positive, based on a third video shared by Mika. In the follow up, she said: "Many agree with me and many do not. The ones who don't, I will not be responding to your comments because I'm not giving you the time of day.

"But I will say this, on my way flying out I was seated in a two-person row with a young woman who was a little bit bigger than I am, and guess what? FYI, plus-sized people, we are not oblivious to the fact we are plus sized. It is not a shock to find out that information I promise, especially from an ill-mannered person on an aeroplane."

She then explained how upon reaching her seat, she suggested asking a flight attendant if there were any empty rows so they could both be more comfortable, and after her neighbour agreed that would be a 'great' idea, the flight attendant happily helped the pair.

"Nobody had to send any ugly text messages talking about anybody else's looks," she added. "Sometimes that's not always an option though, and you know what you do, you act like an adult. You deal with it."
