Hero RAF veteran saves 96-year-old woman with severe head injury in Storm Dudley

An RAF veteran saved the life of an elderly woman who had fallen and sustained a serious head injury during the Storm Dudley chaos.

Ex-soldier Jord Lozman was heading out during the storm when his fiancée Katie Walker noticed a figure lying on the ground further up the street.

The pair ran over to help and discovered 96-year-old Anne, who had taken a tumble and suffered a major head injury, according to Teesside Live.

The dad-of-one, from Gainford, Darlington, called emergency services but was told that due to the bad weather, it could take up to two hours for an ambulance to reach them.

Having previously helped rescue seriously injured soldiers and locals by assisting medics on Chinook helicopters in Afghanistan from 2009 and 2010, the 30-year-old was well-trained to deal with the situation at hand.

As he enlisted the support of two men to help stabilise the pensioner, he could see she was deteriorating rapidly.

He used his scarf and jumper to keep Anne warm before asking Katie to move his car to provide shelter her from the wind and driving rain.

He also ran to a friend's house for blankets, which he wrapped around Anne and another lady who was in shock after witnessing the incident.

Jord used the torch on his iPhone to check how the injured woman's pupils reacted and immediately knew that she needed hospital treatment.

He drove both women to Darlington Memorial Hospital where he was met by medical staff who said that bringing Anne in so quickly had saved her life and that he should be very proud of his actions.

On Saturday, Jord received a call from the hospital from the injured woman.

She could hardly speak, but did manage to say: "I believe you are the man who saved my life."

Jord who left the RAF in 2011 and now works on an offshore oil rig off the Norwegian coast, said he was in bits when he received the call from Anne.

"She is a little fighter; bless her," he added.

Jord, told how he suffered from PTSD due to his experiences in Afghanistan.

When back in the North East on leave he is developing his career as a stand-up comedian, which he finds helps with his PTSD.

He lives in Gainford with his fiancée, Katie and their son Franco, two.
