Christmas and Boxing Day are all well and good, but let’s be honest, the main event is New Year’s Eve (and New Year’s Day, if you’re someone with stamina unlike me). Specifically, I want to know what the New Year’s Eve weather and New Year’s Day weather is going to bring, because Mother Nature has proven to be an extremely unpredictable binch of late.
Will we see more flooding in Sydney (RIP Tottis) or thunderstorms in the GC?
Taking a look at the long-range forecast on AccuWeather, we’re able to smugly predict what’s gonna go down when we welcome in 2025. Spoiler alert: some of ya are gonna get drenched.
New Year’s Eve Weather and New Year’s Day Weather in Australia
Sydney
Sydney’s NYE is a bit of a mixed bag. While it’s not hot enough that you’ll be soaked in sweat, it is a lil’ humid. Watch out for that frizz which will definitely be growing on your head.
- NYE Temperature: High of 28°C, low of 21°C.
- NYE Weather: A morning thunderstorm; otherwise, humid with clouds giving way to sun.
For your Hangover Day, AKA New Year’s Day, the sun will be out but it’s not gonna be too scorching. Just remember to keep hydrated!
- NYD Temperature: High of 26°C, low of 21°C.
- NYD Weather: Less humid with periods of sunshine.
Melbourne
Dare I say that Melbourne may have the best NYE and NYD weather of all?! It’s not too hot on New Year’s Eve, with the next day being perfectly mild. You might need to rug up a bit during the evenings though, as it does dip down quite low.
- NYE Temperature: High of 27°C, low of 15°C.

Hobart
Hobart’s New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day weather are a bit on the colder side, but there’s no rain which is a plus. Besides, who wants a hot day when you’re recovering from a night out drinking? Not me!

Adelaide
Adelaide isn’t as hot as I expected but it’s kinda nice for when you’re hungover. You don’t have any rain in sight, so at least you can still have some bevvies in the backyard.

Perth
Perth is pretty hot this NYE and NYD, which is to be expected. It’s the ideal weather for a few cold McLaren Vale Pinot Grigios!!! Just make sure you slap on the SPF.

Darwin
It’s gonna be muggy as fuck when you’re ringing in 2024 in Darwin. For NYE and NYD Darwin has it all, baby! Thunderstorms, showers and cloudy moments. Maybe purchase a glitter raincoat for your NYE shindig just to be safe?
