Here's What The Menéndez Brothers Will Eat in Prison for Thanksgiving

En español

Contrary to expectations, this Thanksgiving Day, Lyle and Erik Menéndez, who have been incarcerated for the past 34 years for the 1989 murder of their parents, won't enjoy a festive meal with their families. The Menendez Brothers still remain behind bars.

According to InTouch, which obtained the prison's holiday menu on Wednesday, November 20th, inmates can have turkey or ham as their main dish, served with mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, rolls, cranberry sauce, and dessert pie.

TMZ reported on Tuesday, November 26th, that in addition to the holiday meal, the prison will host a non-denominational worship service, and inmates will have the opportunity to receive visitors in a designated area. As for entertainment, Lyle, 56, and Erik, 53, are expected to spend the day watching football.

This could potentially be their last Thanksgiving in prison.

This holiday season is particularly significant for the brothers as they prepare for a resentencing hearing scheduled for January 30th and 31st, 2025. Initially set for December 11th, the hearing was postponed to allow newly elected Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman more time to review the case.

During their infamous trials, the Menéndez brothers claimed they acted in self-defense after years of sexual abuse by their parents. The prosecution, however, argued their motive was greed, leading to their conviction in 1996.

This argument has gained renewed attention, particularly with the release of a new Netflix series and documentary that have reignited public interest in their case.

Another Thanksgiving Behind Bars

Another high-profile figure who will spend Thanksgiving behind bars is Sean "Diddy" Combs. The disgraced hip-hop mogul who is awaiting trial on multiple charges, including racketeering, prostitution, and sex trafficking, will likely experience his first holiday season in prison this year.

Unlike the Menéndez brothers, Combs' holiday meal will be far less festive. Inmates at his facility will be served peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips, whole-grain bread, and fruit. Combs, who has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York since his arrest in September, faces a lengthy legal battle with his trial expected in 2025.
