Here's the Video That Sparked The Snow White Outrage

Disney (DIS) -) has been on a bit of a live-action remake tear lately. This latest batch, which includes "Dumbo," "Aladdin" and "The Little Mermaid," started rolling out in 2019. The bulk of these remakes have failed to live up to the beloved status of the originals, with many seeming to lack that indescribable Disney magic

Almost every new live-action adaptation that Disney has undertaken has had the secondary effect of touching off online conflicts over the company's 'wokeness,' a term few can define. "The Little Mermaid" -- which was a financial flop for Disney -- was attacked in a lengthy online campaign for its decision to cast Black actress Halle Bailey as Ariel.

Disney's latest remake -- an adaptation of "Snow White," which is set to release in March 2024, has also become the latest entry in the company's film catalog to draw the ire of the right, as this remake, like the others, will have a "modern edge."

"It's no longer 1937. She's not going to be saved by a prince. She's not going to be dreaming about true love. She's dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be," actress Rachel Ziegler told Variety last year. "And the leader that her late father told her she could be if she was fearless, brave and true. It's a really incredible story for young people everywhere to see themselves in."

Though the clip is almost a year old, it recently resurfaced on Twitter, quickly drawing so much conservative backlash that the phrase "Snow White" trended.

It also brought Right-wing political commentator Matt Walsh out to play.

The remake has also been criticized in recent weeks for replacing the Seven Dwarfs from the original fairytale with a mix of non-Dwarf characters, as well as casting Latina actress Ziegler as the lead.

Some, however, have praised "Snow White" for the very same reasons it is facing backlash.

"As a father with a young daughter, I teach her that she can be anything she wants to be if she really wants it," journalist Brian Krassenstein said in a Twitter post. "In 1937 just 24% of women were in the workforce. Most were forced to stay home and never pursue their ambitions. Way to go Disney."
