New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett wasn’t in Sunday’s preseason finale for long.
The veteran signal-caller got walloped on a sack by Washington Commanders defensive end KJ Henry. There was a miscommunication along the Patriots’ offensive front that freed up Henry to run straight at Brissett and deliver the crushing blow.
Brissett stood up after the play and could be seen grimacing before finishing out the drive which resulted in a punt. The Patriots didn’t take any chances with their expected starting quarterback, and they brought out rookie Drake Maye to take over on the ensuing drive.
It was a scary moment for the team in the exhibition matchup.

Brissett showed some discomfort in his right shoulder, but there was no clear indicator of a serious injury. The fact that he finished the drive was a positive sign, and he remained on the sideline with his helmet off.
It’s still something to monitor with the regular season opener only two weeks away.
