Here’s a first glimpse at Heartstopper’s opening sequence in season 2

What’s summer without a little romance? Fortunately, Netflix have you covered: the second season of its hit show Heartstopper is set to air at the start of August, and now we know what the opening scene looks like.

As part of Netflix’s Tudum: A Global Fan Event show, Corinna Brown and Kizzy Edgell – who play characters Tara and Darcy – revealed the upcoming clip, which is set to form the very start of episode one.

The sequence picks up with Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) getting ready for a normal school day, with a twist. This time, when he wakes up, it’s to a message from his now-boyfriend Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), and the two proceed to merrily message their way through the morning as they head into the classroom.

When he gets there, Charlie looks around for Nick, who he can’t see – until Nick sneaks up behind him. The clip then ends with the pair looking at each other happily. Aww.

We also got a look at the upcoming episode titles for the series, though some seem to hint at trouble ahead for our loved-up heroes:

1.       Out

2.       Family

3.       Promise

4.       Challenge

5.       Heat

6.       Truth/ Dare

7.       Sorry

8.       Perfect

Adapted from Alice Oseman’s webcomic and graphic novel of the same name, Heartstopper became a massive hit when it premiered last year, shooting its cast to almost-immediate stardom and garnering positive reviews across the board. It told the story of the blossoming relationship and love story between shy Year 10 student Charlie, and popular rugby player Nick from the year above, along with introducing us to their friends, Elle Argent (played by Yasmin Finney) and their classmate Tao Xu (William Gao).

“Compare and contrast [this show] to the sassy snap-back LGBT+ storylines in Sex EducationEuphoria, and just about every teen drama since Skins, and Heartstopper’s innocence feels like its most radical creative suite,” the Standard’s Paul Flynn wrote in his review. “Watching Heartstopper is a very teary binge, for happy and sad reasons.”

Though the clip doesn’t feature appearances from Elle or Tao, it’s safe to assume that the pair will also be front and centre in the upcoming season, along with their burgeoning relationship, which was teased over the course of season one.

As per the Netflix season synopsis, we can expect plenty of challenges in the process: “Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.”
