A 43-year-old woman told her neurologists that her left hand seemed to have a mind of its own. Over the previous year, she had also become withdrawn, forgetful, and emotionally unpredictable. Doctors eventually traced both problems to a rare inherited disorder that damages the brain's white matter.
The case, published in Oxford Medical Case Reports by neurologists at Houston Methodist Hospital and Mayo Clinic in Florida, describes a CSF1R-related disorder. The authors write that this genetic condition is often missed or mistaken for multiple sclerosis, dementia, or other diseases.
