Henry Slade has been omitted from Eddie Jones’ England squad for the upcoming Autumn Nations Series.
But prop Kyle Sinckler, who like Slade missed the summer tour of Australia and also the recent England training camp, is recalled to the 36-man squad for next month’s internationals.
And there is also a place back in the England set-up for Wasps captain Jack Willis, the only player named from the club which currently finds itself in financial turmoil and is expected to head into administration later this week.
Slade had been previously ruled out of England contention after undergoing shoulder surgery but the influential centre was predicted to receive a recall.
He is not on the list of players unavailable for selection because of injury although England do have a star-studded list of absentees including George Ford, Alex Dombrandt, Jamie George, Harry Randall and Sam Underhill.
The squad will meet in Jersey on Monday for a five-day training camp before reconvening at their traditional base in Bagshot in the build-up to the opening Test of the autumn against Argentina on November 6.
Harlequins wing Cadan Murley gets a first international call-up having played at both under-18 and under-20 level for England. Recalled alongside a fully-fit Sinckler in the squad are Max Malins, Val Rapava-Ruskin and Raffi Quirke.
The autumn internationals could also see both Owen Farrell and Courtney Lawes - currently on 97 and 96 international appearances respectively- achieve their century of caps, selection and fitness depending.
England take on Argentina followed by Japan, New Zealand and finally South Africa in four weekends of Saturday matches at Twickenham.
And Jones said: “This is a very strong, vibrant squad and a number of good players have been left out. We are pleased with the depth and strength of the squad.
“The autumn internationals will be like a mini Rugby World Cup for us, starting with two tough games against Argentina and Japan, which mirrors our pool fixtures at next year’s tournament.
“Then we’ll have knock-out type games against New Zealand and South Africa. All four games will be great tests for us.”
Jones has also bolstered his backroom staff with the addition of Danny Kerry. Kerry spent 17 years with Great Britain Hockey and led the women’s team to their Olympic gold in 2016. He will act as a training coordinator under Jones.
