Henry Cavill to reprise his role as Superman for future DC projects

Henry Cavill has officially confirmed he will reprise his role as Superman for future DC projects, and promised fans their patience would be rewarded. The British actor - who has played the last son of Krypton in several films in the DC franchise - said his recent cameo in Black Adam was “just a very small taste of things to come”.

Cavill, 39, took to Instagram on Monday (October 24) to address fans directly, saying he postponed revealing the news before fans had a chance to see Black Adam. He said: “Hey everyone. I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch black Adam.

“But now plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman, and the image you see on this post, and what you saw in Black Adam, is just a very small taste of things to come.”

He went on to say there is “a lot to be thankful for,” before thanking the fans that have long rallied for his return to the franchise. “Thank you for your support and thank you for your patience,” he added.

“I promise it will be rewarded.”

The DC fandom has been vocal in their desire for Cavill to return to the role in recent years, most notably since the release of Zack Snyder’s cut of Justice League, which finally saw the light of day last year following a momentous online fan campaign. Cavill’s comments section was filled with positive reactions to the news, as one fan wrote: “DC finally did something right, well deserved!”

Another added: “Thank God! There has never been a better version of Superman than the portrayal you have done!”

The official DC Comics account simply wrote: “Welcome back,” followed by a red heart emoji.

Cavill first donned the famous red and blue suit in 2013’s Man of Steel, before starring in Batman vs Superman in 2016, Justice League in 2017 and Black Adam, released earlier this month. Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson shared Cavill’s video, saying: “We fought for years to bring you back. They always said no.

“We can’t intelligently & strategically build out our DC Universe without the greatest superhero of all time. Because for us, the fans will always come first.

“Welcome home, Superman. I’ll see you down the road.”
