Just days after being stripped of his Ryder Cup captaincy, Henrik Stenson has now been dropped by a long-term sponsor following his controversial Saudi LIV Golf move.
Stenson dropped a bombshell earlier on in the week after becoming the latest name to defect to the Saudi-backed series, alongside Jason Kokrak and Charles Howell III, and he has come under huge criticism ever since.
The likes of DP World Tour star Eddie Pepperell have been vocal in their criticism of him, claiming that Stenson was chasing a "bucket load of cash" which saw his time as Europe's Ryder Cup captain end abruptly 14 months before the iconic event in Rome.
And the backlash has continued against the 2016 Open champion, with insurance and financial services company Mutual of Omaha confirming they had agreed to part company with the golfer.
ESPN reported that a spokesperson for the company said they had "mutually agreed to end their sponsorship deal, effective immediately."
This decision means that Stenson's cap will no longer feature the company's logo. Mutual of Omaha have sponsored the Swede for the best part of seven years.
However, the decision isn't expected to hurt Stenson too much financially with him set to rake in plenty of cash from the lucrative Saudi series.
After Stenson's Team Europe tenure came to an end, Stenson insisted that he "disagrees" with his stripping but does "accept" the decision.
The 46-year-old said: "As many of you will have already seen, unfortunately my decision to play in LIV events has triggered Ryder Cup Europe to communicate that it is not possible for me to continue my role as Ryder Cup Captain.
"This is despite me making specific arrangements with LIV Golf, who have been supportive of my role as captain, to ensure I could fulfil the obligations of the captaincy. While I disagree with the decision, for now it is a decision that I accept. I have huge respect and admiration for the Ryder Cup and those individuals behind it who I know are doing their utmost to act in the best interests of the historic event."
He also wished Team Europe well after his sacking, adding: "I want to thank everyone I have worked with to date to prepare for Rome in 2023, I am hugely disappointed to not be allowed to continue in my role but wish you all the best in your ongoing preparations."
