ALMORA: A hen made a unique 'record' of laying 31 eggs in a day in Bhikiyasain in Almora district. A video of the bird went viral after which people from far and wide started arriving to see the hen and the eggs.
The hen has been reared by Girish Chandra Budhani in Tehsil Basot. The bird, who is said to be fond of peanuts and garlic, shocked everyone with her unusual 'feat'. When Girish reached his house around 5pm on December 25, he found that the hen was continuously laying eggs.
The egg-laying started at 8am and continued intermittently throughout the day. The hen laid 31 eggs till around 10pm. After the locals heard about the 'strange phenomenon', they started visiting his house to witness it for themselves, while some started attributing it to supernatural forces.
Girish was initially scared about the health of the hen, but the vet told him that the bird was completely healthy. Chief veterinary officer Dr Uday Shankar said that a team of veterinarians had visited the spot and examined the hen. Meanwhile, Girish says that the bird is laying 4 to 5 eggs daily even now.
