Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for Qatar shouldn’t generate too many surprises - this is Gareth Southgate after all. However, there are still a handful of spots in his 26-man squad up for grabs.

Injuries have robbed the England boss of Reece James and Ben Chilwell, opening the door for even more defenders, including hopefully Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Gary Neville reckons the right-back would be an accident waiting to happen in a World Cup knockout game, saying: “He does rash things and I think he is giving away a penalty in a World Cup.”
