Airbnb is offering property stays for free or at a discount via the company and urging people to donate to help its funding stretch further.
The worldwide company is funding short-term housing for up to 100,000 people fleeing Ukraine saying: "We support our refugee guests regardless of nationality, race, ethnicity, or how they identify."
The home-let company confirms people can help by offering temporary stays for free or at a discount through Airbnb.org, or donating to help fund stays.
Host property owners will be expected to provide a comfortable bed and basic amenities for anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
It adds that Airbnb partners with non-profit organisations that check refugee guests for eligibility and assist them before, during and after their stay, and that the business provides hosts with AirCover, which includes $1 million (£760,000) in liability insurance and $1 million in damage protection.
People wishing to donate are being told that 100 per cent of their money will go toward connecting people with short-term housing. It says stays are completely free for guests of its programme, and that donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed under local tax laws.
It said: "We don’t offer housing directly to individuals at this time. Airbnb.org works with other non-profit partners who book and co-ordinate stays for refugee guests. Please reach out to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) if you’re in need of immediate housing support."
The business adds: "Our partners are non-profits that help welcome refugees. These organisations support their clients in finding housing and more. Non-profit proposals are accepted by invitation only."
