Helicopter and lifeboat crews moved in to rescue two kids who drifted out to sea on an inflatable kayak.
Coastguard and RNLI teams scrambled to the incident on the Moray Firth at 3.27pm yesterday.
The alarm had been raised by a concerned adult on the shoreline of Portsoy.
RNLI said that an offshore breeze had pushed the youths - a boy and a girl - out to sea, where they were left unable to get back to shore.
By the time they were saved, the pair had been blown 2km (1.1nm) away from the shoreline.
The rescue operation saw the helmsman put the lifeboat alongside the kayak before the young occupants were brought aboard the lifeboat by crew members, Rob Smith and Kyle Park.
On their arrival back to mainland, a paramedic winched down from the helicopter and onto the Aberdeenshire harbour to provide medical assistance to the youths.
The blow-up vessel was handed over to members of the local coastguard station.
The Macduff RNLI teams stood down from the rescue operation and washed, refueled and returned the lifeboat to be ready for service by evening.
