A grandma has hit out at vandalism in a Helensburgh park – saying it has forced her to take her grandchildren elsewhere.
Resident Jen Allison complained about the issues at Hermitage Park to Argyll and Bute Council and said it’s driving families to visit parks out with the area.
Damage includes the poppers in the witches hat roundabout bursting, the grip covers on the swing roundabout that protect children’s hands are hanging off, the trampoline has a hole in it, and the sandpit lining is exposed.
Jen said: “When you compare the two parks, Levengrove Park wipes the floor with Hermitage.
“It is a sad thing when my friends and I are going to drive our grandchildren to Dumbarton to use a park there when we have a park on our doorstep. Levengrove is always mobbed, but some people have no option but to use Hermitage, especially with the cost of petrol.
“I can understand the money aspect, especially with all the new houses being built in the area, but many new families will be moving in, and it is not a good look.”
Argyll and Bute Council said it is replacing the damaged equipment.
A spokesperson said: “It’s a real shame that parts of the play area have been vandalised, including the roundabout and trampoline.
“A lot of hard work has gone into making Hermitage Park a fantastic community green space for everyone to enjoy.
“We carry out regular maintenance inspections and are aware of the issues.
“We are replacing the damaged play equipment and adding more sand to the sandpit. We ask everyone to look
after this special park, and if you witness any vandalism, please report the matter to the police.”
