Helena Christensen breaks silence after claims she hid Michael Hutchence's brain injury

Michael Hutchence's ex-girlfriend Helena Christensen has broken her silence after his sister's allegations about the star's death.

The INXS singer was tragically found dead in his hotel room in Sydney on 22 November 1997, aged 37, having sadly taken his own life.

In 1992, Michael suffered brain damage during a road rage assault in Copenhagen, which Helena claimed caused the singer to suffer uncontrollable rages.

Michael's sister, Tina, has criticised the supermodel for not telling Michael's family about what happened until three years ago - with some research suggesting the effects of brain damage may lead to suicide.

Helena, who dated the star from 1991 to 1995, took to Instagram today (Nov 23), to pay tribute to the Australian, who is also the father of the late Paula Yates' daughter, Tiger Lily.

Taking to Instagram, sharing beautiful black and white photos of the former couple, the supermodel said: "Hey Michael, was just on the phone with some friends of yours, who all love you very much.

"We shared some beautiful memories and of course we laughed a lot cause being around you was so fun and joyous. You made everyone feel alive and loved, there was always such a magical light around you ~ a light that will never go out Thank you @fabrizioferriofficial for sharing these contact sheets with me."

Helena also posted another photo of the pair with the caption: "25 years but you'll always be here with us."

The supermodel and Michael were once the toast of the showbiz world and were very much in love, according to Tina.

The mum-of-one opened up about the star's assault in Copenhagen to Michael’s close friend, film-maker Richard Lowenstein, in 2019 for BBC2 documentary Mystify.

She said: “We were riding home on our bikes and we stopped to get pizza. He was in the middle of a tiny, narrow road and was eating his pizza.

“This insane taxi driver yelled at Michael to move. He got out of his car and punched him.

“Michael fell backwards and hit his head on the kerb. He was unconscious and there was blood coming out of his mouth and ear. I thought he was dead.

“We got to the hospital and he woke up and was aggressive. They were trying to make him stay but he was physically pushing them away.”

Scientific studies are said to have proven the type of injury Michael sustained can make it difficult for a person to manage their anger - which some argue may explain the star's sudden decision to take his own life.

Speaking to The Sun, Tina said: “I did feel angry when I first found out about the assault, as I felt it was her [Helena's] duty to say something to his family.

“There were all these awful stories about Michael after he died, so for Helena not to tell us about the head injury was wrong. She was very close to our parents and could have easily reached out.

“My first thought was, ‘He died all those years ago. Why didn’t she say something before now?"

The Mirror has contacted Helena's reps for comment.
